About me

MUDr. Igor Kundrát

psychiatrist and psychotherapist

Holder of a license from the Slovak Medical Chamber to practice in the specialty of psychiatry and certified in the professional practice of psychotherapy.

Over 20 years of professional experience in both inpatient and outpatient care.

In my work, I focus on creating a safe and supportive relationship, which forms the foundation for gradually understanding the difficulties a client faces. Together, we explore their true source and how to address it. A strong therapeutic alliance allows us not only to better understand the core of the problem but also to open the way to inner change and relief.

I draw on modern psychodynamic approaches, especially Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). In my clinical experience, this method has proven to be highly effective in addressing a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, physical symptoms related to stress or emotions, relationship difficulties, and struggles with self-esteem or self-defeating patterns.

As a psychiatrist, I also have the option to prescribe medication when it is appropriate. In certain cases, I use it as part of a comprehensive bio-psycho-social approach, though my work remains focused mainly on psychotherapy. I see medication as a helpful supportive tool that can create space for deeper inner change.

Through ongoing professional development, I seek out ways to sharpen diagnostic accuracy and apply focused interventions more effectively. My goal is to support meaningful, lasting change—whether that means easing troubling symptoms or fostering deeper personal growth that brings greater confidence and more satisfying relationships.
